The actual download is called 'simple-gps-points-120312.txt.xz'. It is here that some thought has been put into a filename with a correct extension.

I suppose this thing (the overall service) has been codenamed 'planet.gps', just as a nickname which fits nicely with the other wiki page 'planet.osm'.

Also bear in mind that this service may be altered / extended in future. I suppose one thing which might be made available is more raw access to uploaded GPX files (But I'm not in a position to make any promises).

GPS planet updates

Will the GPS planet dump be updated to include gps tracks added since 2013? Rw (talk) 13:52, 31 March 2016 (UTC)
