Talk:Seamarks/Sectored and Directional Lights

Hello, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to ask/discuss the issue I have. At the moment I am trying to understand the directions of sector_start and sector_end of the directional lights. According to this wiki entry, the sectors of the lights should point to the opposite direction, right? Or are the renderings not correct? Also the example given on the Wikipedia page seems to confirm my understanding. Would be great if someone could clarify this issue.

Background: I found this map with OSM seamark lights and they seem to be tagged with correct values for sector_start and sector_end, so they would point towards the lake in the north, but they seem to be displayed incorrectly.

Explanation

I just found the answer to my problem on the openseamap forum. It is actually written by malcolmh who (probably, I guess it is the same author) also created this page here. The sector_start and sector_end are actually intended to specify the direction to see the light/sector and not the direction towards which the light shines. Therefore the lights I gave as an example have actually the wrong directions. Maybe worth writing a script to find such sector lights (e.g. if there is no (large) waterway in the shining direction, the light and its sectors should be checked manually).
