As such?

This page was developed for "junction=yes" on junctions that have a name, with the description A named road junction who’s name serves for local orientation. Shortly after the proposal Proposed features/Tagging for complex junctions was approved (2014-11-16, discussing junction=yes on areas), the Revision as of 16:36, 23 November 2014 removed the definition regarding named junctions and introduced A road junction as such. Could that be explained a bit further? In particular on a node, a junction is defined by two roads sharing the same node. Unless there is a name, I see no need to give any tag. However, the page seems to suggest this. --Polarbear w (talk) 00:10, 27 January 2019 (UTC)

If I remember correctly, in the discussion previous to voting, people wanted to use it not only for named junctions, but also in the context of highway area mapping. Indeed, today following taginfo, many (most?) areas with this tag do not have a ”name” tag. Sommerluk (talk) 07:02, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
thanks. I'm thinking about adding a line that for a normal junction (being a common node between two highways), junction=yes is implicit and does not to be tagged. So, only when it serves an extra function, such as having a name, it would be needed. --Polarbear w (talk) 09:02, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, seems reasonable to me.

thanks, done. --Polarbear w (talk) 20:46, 27 January 2019 (UTC)
