Why tag crop=grape ?
A vineyard would always have an output of grapes, so this tag is redundant. See https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Tag:crop%3Dgrape Warin61 (talk) 03:51, 19 August 2019 (UTC)
- I've edited the page to mention this, and changed crop=grape from "combination=" to "implies=" since this is part of the feature definition. It looks like crop=grape was recommended on this page for at least the past 7 years, not sure why that was added.
How to properly plot named vineyards
I am wondering if people have an opinion on the mapping of "named" vineyards, that is, vineyards that are made up of multiple blocks? An example of how this can be found here: Hafner Vineyard Map. You can see that the "Hafner Vineyard" is made up of multiple numbered "blocks", each with their own grape varietals.
Personally, I have been mapping each block as a separate vineyard area, with their own grape varietals if applicable, and then combining those into a single vineyard multipolygon, with the name of the larger vineyard as the name of the multipolygon. However, I know there are others who prefer to map these collection of vineyard blocks as a Relation:site.--KristianBlais (talk) 20:53, 10 February 2026 (UTC)
