deprecate

Would you agree to deprecate this tag and recommend using memorial=stolperstein? memorial=* key is used a lot more times, is supported by editors and rendered on OSM Carto. memorial:type=* is a duplicate used only with this value. maro21 18:39, 11 December 2021 (UTC)

Done. maro21 17:55, 6 April 2022 (UTC)
I basically agree and would also always use the tag memorial=stolperstein for a Stolperstein (but a lot of Stolpersteine have to be changed, and double tagging with both tags seems to be a common practice). And a pragmatic migration approach (to a better tagging scheme?) could be to allow (or even recommend) using both tags for a normal (small) Stolperstein and the combination memorial=stolperstein and memorial:type=stolperschwelle for a larger (rectangle) “Stolperschwelle” (example: node 3016392271 – Stolperschwelle in Völklingen; photo on Wikimedia Commons). --Goodidea (talk) 04:28, 15 October 2022 (UTC)

Redirect

What was the point of reverting the redirect?

  • This tag is not used anymore, so it's not documenting a feature still in use
  • On memorial=stolperstein it's listed as deprecated tagging.
  • I tried to remove all links to this page from the English wiki, only other language docs are linking here. But I don't want to change a page written in a language I can't speak.

So I don't see why this page should exist anymore. You can only get here if you specifically type this tag in the search box, you cannot get here via (English) links, or from taginfo, etc...

Or what are your plans User icon 2.svgMaro21 (on osm, edits, contrib, heatmap, chngset com.)? Maybe I'm missing or misunderstanding something? What is the point of maintaining removed tags' pages? Other deprecated memorial:type pages are redirects as well, e.g. plate and plaque --Infeeeee (talk)

Every tag can have a documentation page even if it's deprecated. We have a lot of deprecated and obsolete tag documentations. On such page there are links to taginfo, overpass, tag history and other tools. Redirects shouldn't be used in such way - some people might think that it is an alias and can be used too. Tagging can come back when, for example, someone restores an old version of an element or types a tag from memory. Therefore, we don't remove documentation. maro21 20:07, 26 June 2024 (UTC)
