Use of VicRoads data

I am very sceptical of using VicRoads data, has this been discussed somewhere? I've seen previous conversations about this kind of datasource saying it wasn't compatible with OSM. I would recommend bringing this up on [OSM Legal mailing list] for clarification, before using the data. My worry is that it will be deemed a derivative work, regardless of license. Plus VicRoads might not agree with adding Source = VicRoads meets their attribution requirement. Also don't like the sentence: the material is not modified or treated in a manner prejudicial to the purposes of VicRoads. Also, if someone visits a street and notes the name, can they then remove the Source = VicRoads attribution? --BlueMM 06:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps someone can seek approval from Vicroads for OSM usage, a post their written response here? --inas 22:05, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

Melbourne Cycle Map guidelines

I disagree with using the lcn/rcn notation for onroad/offroad bike routes. It is changing the meaning of the lcn/rcn keys. Has this been discussed somewhere? Seems a bit arbitrary to me. What is wrong with putting it in a route relation like proposed, but the way tagging will show whether it is off road or on. I suggest new ways of tagging specific for Victoria should be discussed on the Talk page or mailing list. BlueMM 00:57, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

I am simply just trying to cater the tags which were made for the UK to our circumstances. By not using NCN, and using RCN for off-road routes and LCN for on-road routes. I agree with putting it up for discussion on the aussie mailing list. This is one major flaw of OSM. Everything is tailor-made to the UK because it is where the project originated. --Lakeyboy 01:59, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Now I realise the way in which the Cycle Map renders the maps. I was under the impression that they did not render like they do, so i've fixed the table. --Lakeyboy 09:20, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

Place Size Definition

The size definition has me confused, I'm not sure we have a population size definition in Australia. See:

I know that it's nice to have a definitive line to draw, as far as I know, there is no figure, it's left up to the councils to define this value. Or may be there is a reason within OSM that requires this information in this format? In my mind a Rural City is a City. Even the Wikipedia reference above says that sometimes, all that is needed is two joining suburbs. Some examples of this that are under 50,000: City of Warnambool, Rural City of Marong, Rural City of Seymour, Swan Hill Rural City & Rural City of Horsham. Mabs 05:03, 12 October 2009 (UTC)
