Extensions Template:Signal Categories

Proposal to extend the "Template:Signal Categories" as follows:

  • Item extensions:
Type: main_repeated Name: Duplicated signal Description: A signal to indicate the state of the main signal. Not to be confused with a Distant signal.
Adding text to the description: Used in case of: (a) poor sighting conditions e.g. curves, tunnels (b) rail splices, branches, headlands/Junction/Bahnhofskopf (c) long sections.
  • Adding a new item:
Type: distant_repeated Name: Distant repeated signal Description: It is placed as an inserted signal between the Distant signal (repeats its state) and the Main signal. Used in case of: (a) poor sighting conditions e.g. curves, tunnels (stopping distance not observed) (b) long sections.

I don't think that distant_repeated should be added. It is not used at all at the moment. And I think this makes sense: While a main_repeated is functionally different from a main signal, a distant repeater signal has the same function as a distant signal. We have the established tag railway:signal:distant:repeated=yes to distinguish repeater signals from "normal" ones. --Entbert (talk) 18:54, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
It depends on your point of view. We have many tags that are defined this way, e.g. <cpde>route_distant, crossing_distant; minor_distant, resetting_switch_distant and others. The use of the ":" character has been inconsistent since the items were created, and until then it conflicts with the "_" character. It also depends on the railway regulations in a particular country. But thank you for the hint with a 9-month delay. :D--HaPe-CZ (talk) 14:07, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
I don't see what these types have to do with a distant_repeated type. And I can't see an inconsistency with regard to : and _. --Entbert (talk) 14:17, 30 January 2026 (UTC)

This is a notation structure; the use of the ":" and "_" characters does not have the same meaning. --HaPe-CZ (talk) 18:23, 30 January 2026 (UTC)
