I used to live in Amsterdam and started with Openstreetmap for mainly two reasons.

One, to give back to the community, since I use a lot of free open source software.

The second reason was to have a reason to go out on my bike and get some exercise (just exercise to exercise is not something I am able to do mentally).

For a few years my family spent a vacation in Corsica where I spent most of my time mapping. It's a really good way to get to know a place.

The last years I am not very active mapping. I fix some errors I encounter. I have moved to France to a rural location. Here there are still quite a few street-names and house-numbers missing. This is mainly because those street-names and numbers didn't exist a few years ago. Until quite recently lot of addresses in France were addressed, apart from the place with it's postal code, just by name of the person and 'lieu dit' something, which I translate as 'locally known as ...". So the postal delivery needed good local knowledge to deliver the mail. New laws require 'modern' addresses everywhere. So there is still something to do here for me. The only 'problem' I have is that I don't need to bike around to exercise. When you live out in the country you get plenty of exercise.

All my contributions to OpenStreetMap are released into the public domain. This applies worldwide. In case this is not legally possible, I grant anyone the right to use my contributions for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.
