Until now I've been mapping addresses in Sofia as a node with addr:* tags, placed on the way of the building, and no addr:* tags on the building itself. I'm changing this to putting the addr:* tags on the building. Here's why.

  • In Sofia the addresses almost always correspond to the whole building. It's very rare to have a single building with multiple house numbers. So the address and the building are not "separate things".
  • Really I was just copying the Edinburgh model (as I often do). But whereas in Edinburgh it's very common to have 3 door numbers on one building (e.g. w301817467), in Sofia it's not.
  • In Sofia it's very common for one building to have multiple entrances, each labelled with a letter. In this case the address has to go on the building itself, forcing a "double standard" where some buildings have addr: tags on the building way, some don't. It's better to standardise and just always put addr:* on the building
  • Nearly every other mapper puts addr:* on the building as far as I can tell.

Comments very welcome.
