Victor N.Sunday

I am Victor N.Sunday, a community leader of OpenStreetMap Nigeria . The founder and the current National Coordinator of Unique Mappers Network-the OpenStreetMap Community NGO in Nigeria. My curiosity about crowdsourced mapping and Volunteered Geographic Information drove me into signing up for OpenStreetMap in 2015 and since then its being a passionate research about OpenStreetMap in Nigeria, growing team of OpenStreetMap founded in 2017 that exploded into a national community NGO of OpenStreetMap enthusiasts in Nigeria-The Unique Mappers Team of Africa !!! In the past 5 years (2017-2022),we have made such a tremendous local impact about OpenStreetMap in Nigeria, that,in the geospatial circle -I hear professional colleagues fondly call me ''Mr.OpenStreetMap'' , 'Unique Mappers'' just to celebrate my branded passion about OpenStreetMap. Of course, we have raised a community, mentored volunteers, signed up many OSMites and engaged more than a thousand to contribute more than 2 million edits in OpenStreetMap Nigeria and beyond. We have carefully experienced, studied and scaled through the challenges of raising and sustaining a community of volunteers for OpenStreetMap. And this has given us a vantage position to present at the FOSS4G 2022 Academic a paper analyzing local and remote mappers engagement -in Nigeria https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2022ISPAr48W1..465S/abstract More appreciation to my mentor Prof, Maria Antonia Brovelli https://www.linkedin.com/in/maria-antonia-brovelli-750544/

Strategically,I have gained more experience working closely with Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team(HOT) as a voting Member,a community working group member and other groups right from 2018 when I got our 1st Microgrant which helped to trigger our community growth and expansion from Unique Mappers Team to Unique Mappers Network OSM Community NGO And beyond Nigeria,we have successfully and remotely set up community of OSM volunteers . We have responded and keep responding to flood disasters and other causes in Nigeria and beyond . I have successfully, engaged students in thier level courses with OpenStreetMap. As an academic, I see opportunities for OpenStreetMap in every research and courses.
