Regarding updating leisure=pitch_area from "in use" to "proposed"

Hello!

Just seen you've updated this tag from "in use" to "proposed." I don't think this fits. The tag does not have a proposal associated with it and I have documented it as a tag currently in use by people mapping this feature.

The wiki is still fairly new to me though and I found the template docs lacking in what actually constitutes a proposal vs in use.

I checked the template definition, and the wording there includes tags that don't have a formal proposal but are still experimental. I guess we could use the forum thread as the status link? Campbelltree (talk) 16:09, 6 October 2026 (UTC)

The Template:ValueDescription page says "proposed: the key or tag has been proposed to be used (but not yet approved) and usage of this tagging is minimal"

The Tag status page says "proposed: the key or tag has been formally proposed and discussed on the Tagging mailing list and at the proposal Talk page, but it has not yet reached the voting stage."

The "In Use" section on that same page pretty explicitly includes tags that are being used by a small number of mappers. I only documented the use after there were 26 uses.

I don't disagree that "in use" feels wrong but maybe in that case we need something like "informally proposed" or something similar or the wiki documentation on Tag Statuses needs updating. I can't find the documentation you've referenced. CanopyFalls (talk) 16:21, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
