Messages for User:Yellowbkpk

Hi Ian,

you removed warnings about the license from the wiki page today. Simon Poole added them a few weeks ago because I (or a DWG member – I don't remember exactly) reverted an import of OpenAdresses addresses. The warning aimed to inform a naive reader that although the name of the project contains the term "open", it is not open enough for the use by OSM.

Could you please revert your edit or add a box with a similar content or discuss it on an appropriate mailing list? I don't insist on the phrase "it is neither clear who operates the project" and "potentially criminal acts". But please keep the message clear. Please keep in mind that this page is not only read by native English speakers. People with a reduced knowledge of the English language might prefer shorter sentences with a clear message. --Nakaner (talk) 16:31, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

I thought that might be the case, which is why I included (a less inflammatory version of) the message on the page. It says "In other words, don't import data from into OpenStreetMap without validating license suitability and following the import guidelines." With a link to the import guidelines. Can you recommend a change to make it clearer? Yellowbkpk (talk) 16:43, 30 November 2017 (UTC)

Using talk pages

Could you please indent responses on talk pages on this wiki using : ? It is a common practice to do so, makes reading easier and clear who responded whom. Thank you. --Nakaner (talk) 12:19, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

This is an example response. --Nakaner (talk) 12:19, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
Absolutely! Thanks for letting me know what the indent syntax is. Wiki's are a terrible way to have a conversation. --Yellowbkpk (talk) 15:05, 1 December 2017 (UTC)
