WinterPark Ski Mapping Event
The Winter Park Mapping event will be an exercise in mapping, skiing, pub crawling (read: surveying), restaurant sampling and hot cocoa sipping! This event is in conjuction with WhereCamp5280, hosted in Denver at CU-Denver the day before. The event is open to experienced OSM mappers to assist with organising, demonstrating OSM surveying and to those wanting to learn and get their first day on the slopes.
Note: Please add yourself to the list of attendees below up to a week in advance of this event to allow me (user: HurricaneCoast) to keep a list of expected skiers/boarders in advance.
When:
- Saturday 20th November 2010
- 10am Meet at the base of Winter Park at the Balcony House. The Balcony House is a big brown building, one of the oldest, that faces the slopes. It houses the ticket windows and is home to Coffee and Tea. Go up the main staircase and we will meet just inside.
- 10:30am A half hour talk on OpenStreetMap - Mapping with your smart phone or GPS
- Hand out GPS units and get you going
- 11-3pm Go out and ski, board and map map map!
- 1pm (Optional) Meet at Cheeky Monk (in Winter Park Base Village near ice rink) for lunch
- By 3pm: please return borrowed GPS units. We will be at Cheeky Monk drinking beers!
- we will do a follow up meeting, most likely downtown Denver, where we will upload our tracks and put your hard work mapping up on OSM!

This is all depending on the fact that the snow gods favor us with fluffy white stuff before November 20th!
- IF there is no snow: let's plan on mapping the town of Winter Park! Still a great destination for a Saturday in November.
Mapping locations:
Mappers should plan on pairing up (at least!) to conquer their section of the mountain.
Please bring the non-skiing family!
The village needs to be mapped to: and this is where the cocoa sipping, pub hopping and restaurant testing takes place :)
- If there is no snow to ski on, we will map the town of Winter Park instead!
- 10am Meet at The Pub [1]
- 10:30am A half hour talk on OpenStreetMap - Mapping with your smart phone, borrow a GPS, or walking papers.
- Hand out GPS units and get you going
- 11-3pm Go out and map map map!
- 1pm (Optional) Meet at The Pub for lunch
- By 3pm: please return borrowed GPS units. We will be at The Pub drinking beers!
