About the Project

World of Fire Hydrants is a mobile utility application designed for emergency responders, civil protection volunteers, and fire safety operators to locate and document emergency water sources.

Users can submit reports of missing or updated fire hydrants. Every submission undergoes manual review and spatial verification by administrators via the admin dashboard before any changeset is uploaded to OpenStreetMap.

Quality Assurance and Verification Workflow

  1. User Report: App users report an hydrant specifying location, technical details, and photos.
  2. Privacy & License: Users explicitly grant consent to license technical and location data under ODbL / Open Data.
  3. Proximity Check: The backend performs a PostGIS proximity query (50m radius) against local OSM data to prevent duplicates.
  4. Manual Review: Administrators review the report details and attached photos.
  5. OSM Upload: Verified hydrants are individually submitted to OpenStreetMap via the official OSM API v0.6 using dedicated changesets.

Tagging Schema
