YouthMappersTUM is an undergraduate chapter at the Technical University of Munich[1].

About us

Our mission is to advance humanitarian efforts and foster community development through the power of open mapping. We focus on mapping at-risk regions globally to support humanitarian interventions, empower students with open mapping expertise, and strengthen community resilience.

History

The chapter's journey began with a group of enthusiastic students from the departments of Cartography, united by their shared interest in the mission of the YouthMappers community. Their decision to volunteer and contribute to OpenStreetMap was a testament to their dedication. This initial spark of interest led to the growth of our community, as we were joined by students from the Department of Land Management. Both departments, with their shared interest in the methods and processes of creating, acquiring, and analyzing spatial data, have been instrumental in providing usable information.

As we look to the future, we are filled with hope and excitement. We envision the chapter continuing to grow, with more and more students from the Remote Sensing and GIS departments joining our cause. Their contributions to OpenStreetMap and YouthMappers will enrich our community and further our mission.

Our goals

1. We coordinate, partner, and execute global mapping projects addressing real-world development challenges, generating and utilizing geospatial data and information accessible through open platforms.

2. We exchange experiences and outcomes, continually learning, leading, and making a meaningful impact worldwide.

3. We aspire to continue growing our community development through the power of open mapping.

4. We strive to build a collaborative environment where students from various disciplines can unite, share knowledge, and develop skills supporting our humanitarian and community development goals.
