Proposal

Example of public loungers

Add separate tag for loungers.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunlounger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deckchair

Rationale

As we have amenity=bench for benches, there is a lack of tag for loungers. They are two different things - the first one is for sitting and the second one is for lying down, so there should be two different tags for them.

Tagging

Use amenity=lounger on a node.

  • If it is a permanent one, just set a node with amenity=lounger in its place.
  • If it is a group of portable loungers, that is always present during part of the year, set a node in their middle, and add combination of amenity=lounger + seasonal=*

Features/Pages affected

Tag:amenity=lounger would be created

External discussions

Discussion on Tagging list led to the conclusion that amenity=lounger would be the most proper for this feature.

  • I abstain from voting but have comments I have comments but abstain from voting on this proposal. While I am actually in favour of the tag amenity=lounger, the proposed tagging contradicts our Good practice guidelines, which recommend to not map 'objects without a fixed location that are easily or regularly moved'. --SelfishSeahorse (talk) 08:33, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
some loungers are attached to the ground in the same way as benches: see e.g. https://xian.smugmug.com/Our-Dogs/Fun-2017/Vanalles/i-hhfw8CL/A --Escada (talk)
This proposal explicitly includes also moveable, cyclically present ones Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:04, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
@Escada: I'm aware of these fixed loungers and I prefer that the tag amenity=lounger only includes them, like in the original proposal. --SelfishSeahorse (talk) 13:43, 20 May 2018 (UTC)
Can you respond at https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Talk:Good_practice#temporary_events_and_temporary_features_clarification ? I have a different interpretation of this rule Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 09:13, 20 May 2018 (UTC)

  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. While I would have preferred a more verbose name like amenity=deck_chair or lounge_chair I can go with lounger as well-- Dieterdreist (talk) 12:55, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
  • I approve this proposal I approve this proposal. As you probably have noticed, amenity=bench + bench:type=lounger is already in use for this. That subtag is reasonable in the respect that a lounger is technically just a bench with a greater width. On the other hand, I hate all *:type subtags, because "type" is not a property. Perhaps the biggest advantage of separating amenity=lounger from amenity=bench is to avoid confusion on the meaning of seats=*, direction=* and backrest=*. --Fkv (talk)
actually the typical lounge chair is somehow similar to a bench but less wide and much longer. --Dieterdreist (talk) 22:01, 27 May 2018 (UTC)

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I have no issue with the main proposed tag, but the suggested usage of seasonal=* has implications beyond loungers. In my opinion, this kind of change shouldn't be hidden in a proposal that only people interested in lounger mapping are likely to read. So far, seasonal is primarily used on natural and waterway features. When used on amenity, it might be considered a trolltag. --Tordanik 15:36, 29 May 2018 (UTC)

  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. I would prefer a subtag bench=lounging (User:chris66)
  • I oppose this proposal I oppose this proposal. for non-permanent lounger, permanent=no would make more sense. I would vote for amenity=louncher - or subtag bench=lounching - and for permanent=yes/no --Nospam2005 (talk) 08:41, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
