This value indicates that a feature (e.g., amenity, area, or highway) is specifically intended for dogs. Examples include dog beaches and dog water bowls/fountains. In some cases, e.g. leisure=dog_park, this may be implied.

This tag is a complimentary tag, not stand-alone, and must be used alongside another feature (e.g. highway=*, building=*, leisure=park). See dog=* for more information.

On-leash requirements

It is probably implied that dogs may be unleashed in such cases. Therefore, even if the feature is designated for dogs but dogs must be leashed, consider using dog=leashed instead.
