- Should we distinguish between articles about openstreetmap, and articles that mention it only in passing? Ojw 22:11, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
is an article about "slow moving" routing (foot, bicycle, ...) not only about OSM.05 Aug 2008 DE Netzzeitung - Schöner radeln mit Online-Routenplaner
- If we add the country we can filter about it - good idea or not? --Zapfen 06:36, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

New Formatting Style
Please compare August 2008 to the other month: Is it easier/more comfortable to add articles via a template? This also gives us an easy opportunity to add flags and have the data in a more structures way to extrude e.g. all french press articles. Or does it look to complex and will scare people away? --Avatar 09:34, 11 August 2008 (UTC)
- I like the new formatting style. It is much better --Firefishy 09:23, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- So do I. How do you add the dutch flag? (5th august: "tweakers")--Jb2500 13:34, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- Edit this to include include the flag. Use Special:Upload to upload the flag unless one already exists --Firefishy 13:45, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
- I added the dutch flag. Language code is nl. --Avatar 09:38, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

- The flags use a lang=* setting but clearly make use of country codes (no lang code ="ch" for Switzerland). It's certainly useful to know the country of origin of the article/video etc, but the language of the medium is also important. The two have clearly been conflated. Can't think of what to suggest, but just noticed because the Berner Zeitung interview with SteveC has now got a swiss flag next to it. This is not the only place on OSM with this type of confusion, apparently name:br is used extensively in Brazil, despite relative lack of abundance of Breton speakers. See talk-fr for details. - I just changed the template so to make a distinction between lang and country. Damouns 14:26, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Clean up
What about moving previous years to subpages, I suggest one subpage for each year. This way we will have the latest ones on the main page without the page being too big, and an easy search able archive. --Skippern 14:28, 1 December 2008 (UTC)
- I had the same idea. I've just done it. Please review if evrything looks fine now --Rotbarsch 13:49, 8 December 2008 (UTC)
- Fixed template and cleaned up a little more, think it looks good now :D --Skippern 05:34, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
How to find news on the internet
Go to google.com/alerts and subscribe for the search "OpenStreetMap". --Lulu-Ann 12:09, 22 July 2009 (UTC)
Flag designators
Are the flags being used to distinguish between languages or countries of origin? If the latter, then there needs to be a distinction between UK and US (perhaps others as well, but that jumped out at me). --Ceyockey 17:53, 6 December 2009 (UTC)
- The template parameter for the flags is called "lang". I therefore assume that it is intended for languages. --Tordanik 18:37, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
- Not anymore: see above "New Formatting Style". Damouns 14:26, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Country and language specific pages
Is it possible to make a script (with menus to filter) to display in this page only articles from a country or/and in a specific language? Every article would be recorded in "OpenStreetMap in the media" and localized pages (like "FR:OpenStreetMap in the media") wouldn't be useful anymore (no need to copy the same article in the appropriate page anymore). And the distinction between country and language would be clearer (as with the pt-BR problem). Damouns 08:36, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
- We now have a bo that crawls all pages and creates list for Software, so I guess this should be easily possible. Furthermore user:Joto is working on a more general osm wiki bot framework.
- What we can do befor, is to merge all lang lists into the main page and then filter them later out --!i! 13:15, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
- This would be great! Damouns 15:44, 1 December 2010 (UTC)
- FYI: Even though it doesn't look like it, I'm still working on this task. ;) It could be useful for a lot of other lists, too, but my old code needs a facelift first. --Tordanik 20:31, 3 January 2013 (UTC)
