Open Issues (copied from main article
- The implications of cycleway and bridleway are inconsistent. One defaults to allowing foot traffic, while the other does not.
- No provision is made for any other sort of path, such as ski trails and snowmobile trails.
- Does cycleway=lane imply that there is a cycle lane on each side of the road or only one? If only one, on which side is it then? If cycleway=opposite is used, does it imply that there is an indicated lane, or simply that bicycles can go against the oneway traffic? (This is what happens mostly here in Belgium, lots of oneway streets for cars allow bicycles to go contraflow, but not all)
I feel this page should be cleaned and merged as appropriate. It duplicates information found on many other pages (Hiking, Hiking/Trails, Path controversy, Tag:highway=path and Approved features/Path to name but a few)

Why is this page saying that the community agrees about what's written here? Just look at the endless discussions on the mailing lists to know that far from everyone agrees on this.
Furthermore, why is there a lot of unrelated stuff on this page? Long distance footpaths, walking and cycle routes: they have nothing to do with this topic... --Eimai 14:34, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
Merge with hiking?
Would it make sense to merge this article with hiking? PeterIto 10:29, 19 December 2011 (UTC)
