Equipment:
I am trying to use an HTC Desire S for mapping activities now - sadly the GPS seems to be very unreliable; many people on Android forums complain that it takes forever to get a lock (or doesn't at all), and is little use for even the stock maps and navigation apps.
Previously I was using a Blackberry 8900 Curve, with GPSLogger, but due to some acute financial pressures, my company had to take back a large number of issued mobile devices :( I also used bbTracker but found GPSLogger to be more flexible. GPSLogger also stores HDOP information. The Blackberry also includes automatic geotagging of images taken with the internal camera for photo mapping.
When not mapping: Software engineer, hacker, cat wrangler.
