Polders are land areas that constitute artificial hydrological entities, enclosed by specific man_made=embankment called man_made=dyke.
Most polders are in the Netherlands and in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Basin. In the Netherlands, polders usually are below sea level, with canals and pumping stations to drain water. Historically, pumping stations were windmills. Most modern pumping stations have electric pumps.
