CSGU Mappers Chapter is a part of the international network of university-student-led chapters, YouthMappers, building and increasing resilience in their communities through the application of open source geospatial technologies. The chapter is hosted at the Faculty of science and includes all students seeking the same goals within Gulu University.

Objectives

  • To train and organise OSM mapping events to existing and new members.
  • To apply OSM mapping skills within the community.
  • To inspire and collaborate with other chapters, research and development implementing bodies on the benefits of OSM and share results about building community resilience.

The chapter is currently made up of 30 students.

Projects and activities

Project Year Description
Water Infrastracture Mapping in Uganda 2021-2022 Mapping water infrastructure data in OpenStreetMap, an approach to increase the frequency and update the data collected on water points into the Water Point Data Exchange platform(WPDx). The main goal is to demonstrate the potential of crowdsourcing water point data for improved decision making.
