The Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) Community Working Group (WG) celebrated the 2024 International Women's Day and Women's Month through the Open Mapping Women Awards (OMWA). OMWA aimed to celebrate and recognize women in open mapping. The initiative has been inspired by State of the Map Asia (SotM Asia) 2023's Community Awards and ongoing discussion about Open Mapping Community Builder Award.

Background

Since 2021, the HOT Community Working Group has been organizing webinars to recognize and highlight women for International Women's Day (IWD) and Women's Month in the month of March.

In 2024, the WG discussed other ways to celebrate women. Building on previous ideas and initiatives like 2023 SotM Asia's Community Awards, we launch the nominations for Open Mapping Women Awards (OMWA) 2024.
