Introduction

IRDP YouthMappers Dodoma IRDP YouthMappers refers to the Mappers (Students, Alumni, Staff) at the Institute of Rural Development Planning who engaged in mapping and other technologies related to it. The chapters was established so as to enlighten students on starting to learn issues related to their studies, but also to gain the courage to start interacting with the community around them.

About Us

IRDP YouthMappers excited to Make a change in our community and country by organizing, collaborate, and implement mapping activities that respond to actual development needs around the region and country – creating and using geospatial data and information that is made publicly available through open platforms. We share experiences and results while learning, leading, and making a difference in the country and world at the same time.

History

IRDP YouthMappers in Dodoma was established since 2017 under the support of Crowd2Map and YouthMappers. The chapter was handed under Department of Environment Planning at Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP). It started with students who take Bachelor Degree in Urban Development and Environmental Management. And then starting to spread to other students of Environmental Management. Currently, there are over 65 students chapter members.

Our Vission

To become the premier chapter for GIS and remote sensing, providing students with the necessary skills and knowledge to become leaders in the field, and making a positive impact on society by using geospatial technologies.


Our Mission

Our mission is to providen students with the opportunity to learn about and apply geospatial technologies, such as GIS and remote sensing, to solve real-world problems. We aim to achieve this by:

  • Providing training and workshops on GIS and remote sensing tools and software to enhance students' technical skills.
  • Offering hands-on experience through projects that apply geospatial technologies to real-world problems, such as environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster response.
  • Creating a community of students who share an interest in GIS and remote sensing, fostering collaboration and networking opportunities.
  • Promoting the importance of geospatial technologies in society and advocating for their use to address social and environmental challenges.
  • Engaging with industry professionals and experts in the field to provide students with career development opportunities and insights into the latest trends and innovations in GIS and remote sensing.

Our Activities

Road Import Project by OMDTZ and Meta The project was coordinated by OpenMap Development Tanzania (OMDTZ). The main target for this project was to import roads found in Dodoma City as well as Street View of the city. Mpwapwa Field Work by Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) - Dodoma The project aimed to help Second Year students in Urban Planning & Environment Management at the Institute of Rural Development Planning in Dodoma, to conduct their field at Mpwapwa District in Dodoma Region. The field is about to conduct a Regularization Scheme and mitigating community problems rely on land ownership. Therefore, help us on digitizing existing infrastructure such as buildings and roads found in this area. But also, any existing water bodies such as rivers and streams. Link to the project
