Import/Catalogue/NSW Maritime Speed Zones
NSW Maritime Speed Zones Import is an import of NSW Maritime Speed Zones covering NSW, Australia. The import is currently at the planning stage.
A textural description of the speed zones is at https://roads-waterways.transport.nsw.gov.au/documents/maritime/safety-rules/speed-limit-areas.pdf
Goals
To add maritime speed zones to OSM data.
Schedule
September 2023.
Import Data
Background
Data source site: https://opendata.transport.nsw.gov.au/dataset/maritime-speed-zone
Data license: https://website.tld/license
Type of license (if applicable): CC-BY-4.0
Link to permission (if required): TfNSW_OSM_CCBY_Signed_Waiver.pdf

ODbL Compliance verified: yes
OSM Data Files
Changes to be created manually, source data only used as a reference.
Import Type
one-time, but changes in the source data may result in ongoing updates in OSM. Manual import via iD/JOSM and changes/tasks tracked with MapRoulette.
Data Preparation
Data Reduction & Simplification
n/a as data not directly imported.
Tagging Plans
maxspeed=* will be applied to the linear waterway=* way if it exists, eg. maxspeed=8 knots.
The speed zone area will also be mapped on the water=* area, which may exist as a closed way or as a multipolygon, also using the maxspeed=* tag.
Changeset Tags
The comment will make reference to "NSW Maritime Speed Zones" data.
Data Transformation
n/a
It is expected that existing waterway boundaries (shorelines) will be used and not modified to match the source data. Where there is an arbitrary boundaries to the speed zone that's not a shoreline, the nodes from this will be manually extracted and merged into OSM.

Workflow
Working through tasks from MapRoulette, each speed zone will be mapped on existing waterway ways, and also mapped as an area. As previously mentioned, existing shorelines and coastline boundaries existing in OSM should remain in-tact, only boundaries existing within the waterbody that don't follow an existing natural or otherwise mapped feature will be imported. It is expected that this way section or nodes be manually imported and joined to the existing data in OSM in JOSM.
Conflation
If data already exists, it will be left intact or improved, if in conflict a changeset discussion will be raised on the original contribution.
