We celebrate International Women's Day (IWD) 2022 on 8th March 2022 as well as the Women's Month in the month of March.

IWD 2022's theme is #BreakTheBias:

Imagine a gender equal world.

A world free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination.

A world that's diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

A world where difference is valued and celebrated.

Together we can forge women's equality.

Collectively we can all #BreakTheBias.

We can break the bias in different spaces, including the map - on IWD / Women's Month and beyond.

Mappy communties from across the globe will gather to #BreakTheBiasedMap.

Concept for a the movement: #BreakTheBiasedMap

We call every mappy / OSM community to celebrate women, raise awareness against bias and take action. [1]

Ideas

  • Organize event / mapathons / mapping parties with and for women
  • Share stories (social media posts, blogs, posters, video materials) of / by  women in the mapping space
  • Promote IWD 2022 / Women’s month initiatives
  • Raise awareness against bias through discussions / conversations, etc
  • Use the hashtags: #BreakTheBias and #BreakTheBiasedMap ;)
  • Any other ideas?

Example Event Flow:

1. One (or two) woman speaker/s to talk about their initiative/s that puts women on the map / encourages women participation on the map

2. Choose a theme to map (e.g. feature/s that are prioritized by women / mapping campaigns for women)

3. Duration: 1 to 3 hours

PS. This is an inspiration from LCCWG's OSM 17 global mapathon where communities came together to map and celebrate OSM17's birthday. https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/OpenStreetMap_17th_Anniversary_Birthday_party :)

Other Sample Event flow? :)
