railway:cbtc=* is used to indicate a railway line utilises communications-based train control signalling.
Although the equipment of CBTC means automatic operation of trains, automatic operation is not a own characteristic of CBTC. Therefore using railway:ato=* for tagging the specific type of automatic operation is encouraged.
Values
The type of CBTC is dependent on the method of installment.
Radio Frequency CBTC
Radio Frequency CBTC(RF-CBTC)(railway:cbtc=RF) is a method that uses radio frequency transmissions. Most of CBTC signaling system uses this method.
Inductive Loop CBTC
Inductive Loop CBTC(IL-CBTC)(railway:cbtc=IL) is a method that installs inductive loop on rails. This is an old method and rarely used.
ATO-specific Values
Currently most of this tag has the value that describes the type of automated operation. See railway:ato=* for these values.
Usage
Sections of track equipment with a CBTC system should utilise the tag railway:cbtc=yes. If the type is known for that particular section of track, the corresponding tag may be used instead. CBTC is a broad term as it's implementation is specific to each railway so digression should be used.
