Specifies a part of number plates which depends on the area where the vehicle was registered.

Note that OSM uses British English so the currently more popular license_plate_code=* shouldn't be used.

Usage

The key should be used on boundary=* relations or whatever that represents an area or a place which has a specific area code for number plates. Note that if a number plate is defined e.g. for three municipalities, then you should add this key to those 3 municipalities' boundary relations and not create a new boundary relation just for plate area codes. However if a number plate is defined for a single county, then just the county boundary relation should have the key and not any sub-boundaries that are a part of it.

If specific vehicles such as motorcycles or police cars have their own area code, suffixes such as vehicle_plate_code:motorcycle=* and vehicle_plate_code:police=* may be used as well.
