Heated roads (also known as a Snowmelt system[1]) are roads heated by either electricity or hydronic tubes to keep them clear of ice and snow in the winter. The tag is used in combination with the winter_service=*.

Usage

Value Description
yes The road or area is heated and therefore always free of ice and snow.
no Default. The road or area is not heated. Other winter service methods may be used.

For the 70 instances as of 2024-10, only 5 are used on highway=* roads (in Turku, Finland). The vast majority are found on highway=bus_stop and highway=platform in Milwaukee.
