Schalansky_ref=* - the Schalansky_ref is a reference to the page in the English (and Dutch) edition of the Atlas of Remote Islands where this island is described.

This is an Atlas by Judith Schalansky [1] made in 2009, originally in German. The OSM references are taken from the English edition of 2010.
This key is deliberate with an uppercase initial S, as it is a person name.
There are 50 references in total.
26 is the first and 132 the last.
As such, the Schalansky_ref is not something that is visible "on the ground" and there is no way at all to check it's existence by means of a sign "on the ground". It shares this property (a.o.) with administrative borders or telephone numbers.
