The tag admin_type:PH is used to indicate the legal category of administrative entities in the Philippines.

History
Over time various different tags have been used to record this information. Minor usage of designation occurred as early as 2014 and admin_type:PH was first used in 2016. Soon after this a draft proposal for place:PH was written and mappers started to use the new tag in 2017. The latter was dominant in usage for several years but in 2020 designation and admin_type:PH started to raise in popularity and in 2023 they both surpassed place:PH in usage.
In order to unify our mapping efforts a vote was held in the OpenStreetMap Pilipinas community channel on 2023-07-18 which resulted in 10 votes for admin_type:PH, 5 votes for designation and 2 abstentions.
