The name of a religious administrative unit (diocese), used in addition to amenity=place_of_worship, amenity=school or other such religious place.

In some regions, operator=* and operator:wikidata=* are tagged with the diocese, archdiocese, or deanery. operator=* accommodates a variety of religions and denominations, unlike the scheme documented on this page.
It is best practice to use the name of the administrative unit without categorical descriptors. For example, instead of "Diocese of XYZ", simply put "XYZ". Diocese is implied in the key. For different denominations, it is similarly redundant to place the denomination in the diocese tag. It would be taken care of with the denomination tag.
