is_sidepath=*

Status: proposed

This key is similar to is_sidepath=* for defining whether a path is a "sidepath" of a highway's centerline. There are cases though, where the path is a sidepath according to the definition in is_sidepath=*, but not a "sidepath" in a legal sense according to the local jurisdiction.

One example is cycleways in Germany, that must be used when they have certain traffic signs and are sidepaths of the road your are travelling. In this case the definition of "sidepath" differs from the one in is_sidepath=*.

In order to be able to differentiate between the two definitions this key can be used.

How to map

Add is_legal_sidepath=* to a way tagged with highway=* (in particular highway=cycleway, highway=footway or highway=path) using one of the following values:

  • yes: The way is a sidepath (in a legal sense) to a road according to the local jurisdiction.
  • no: The way is not a sidepath according to the local jurisdiction.
