Describes the type of waste stored at a landfill.

Values

Value Description Count
ash Fly ash, flue ash, coal combustion residuals (CCR), residuals from waste combustion, or similar inert waste

compost Organic matter that can be decomposed by microorganisms, often re-used as fertilizer

construction_waste Construction rubble, any debris generated during the construction, renovation and demolition of buildings, roads, and bridges (according to EPA)

hazardous_waste Hazardous, toxic, corrosive and other materials like batteries, PCBs, paints and solvents, motor oil, aerosols, waste containing mercury, etc. Not including nuclear waste.

household Household waste, not including hazardous and nuclear waste

industry_waste Any material that is rendered useless during a manufacturing process, e.g. in factories, mills, and mining operations. Types might include dirt and gravel, masonry and concrete, scrap metal, oil, solvents, chemicals, scrap lumber. Possible overlap with hazardous waste, depending on legislation.

For rock and sediment that was dumped after being extracted from a quarry or riverbed, consider using man_made=spoil_heap instead of landuse=landfill.
