The key ref:idescat=* is the official identifier for a Catalonian territorial unit, from [W] IDESCAT, [W]P4335.

Depending on the scope, the reference has a different number of digits. These scopes are the following:

  • Counties, the reference only has two digits.
  • Municipalities, are six digits, called codi.
  • Population entities, are thirteen digits.

The reference is composed as follows:

  1. the first two are the province code
  2. the next three are the sequential number of the municipality within the province
  3. a control digit (these first six digits form the codi)
  4. two digits for the collective entity
  5. two digits for the singular entity
  6. another control digit
  7. two digits for the nucleus or disseminated
