App for collecting OpenStreetMap-compliant accessibility data in public transport | |
OpenStop is a free app to add information about barriers and other accessibility properties of public transport stops to OpenStreetMap. The app is aimed specifically at new or inexperienced OpenStreetMap users, as there is no need to be familiar with various tagging schemes.
How it works
When getting close to a public transport stop the app will load and show markers for all elements that miss some accessibility information. Tapping a marker will reveal a list of questions to obtain the missing information. After going through the questions, a summary of the collected information is presented including the ability to eventually upload the data to OpenStreetMap.
Questions
Sample questions asked by the app:
- Does the passenger information display at the stop provide speech output that can be requested manually?
- Is there tactile writing on the controls of the elevator?
- Are there special parking spaces for disabled people?
- Does the stop have a special curb with an approach aid for buses?
- How long does the escalator/moving sidewalk ride take?
- Is there a covered waiting area at the stop?
