EZRouting is a transportation software company based in Buffalo, New York. We utilize OpenStreetMap to help generate the base maps for our clients, which are largely school districts and school transportation departments within the continental United States.

This project was created to fix errors with OSM data and edit geometry for the road network within school districts in the USA. We concentrate on road mistakes (such as missing roads, incorrect road names, or incorrect road locations). Our goal is to improve map conditions so EZRouting can generate optimal and accurate route paths for bus drivers as well as providing navigation instructions for bus drivers.

Background

As part of ongoing work to improve the quality and accuracy of OpenStreetMap data, we update the data on OSM manually when school districts report errors and/or new construction. We will also validate the road change requests by confirming with client-provided county GIS maps, satellite imagery, and additional resources provided by clients. Our goal is to make sure school transportation is as safe and efficient as possible, and having accurate maps is central to this goal.

Editing OpenStreetMap data

EZRouting focuses on editing roads. For the most part, we will focus on updating road names or adding in new roads/developments upon request from a school district.

There is no set timeframe for our OSM activity. Typically, most map edits are made when a district joins our company as a new client, but updates can be made continuously based on client request. Our activity is expected to continue indefinitely.

Edits made by EZRouting map team are accompanied by the hashtag #EZRouting.
