Rationale

Addition of new and clarification of existing data on hotels, motels, guest houses and other overnight accommodation services for tourists and travelers. Improve OSM's travel planning capabilities. Provide an opportunity for tourists to book a hotel.

Project idea

Information from the API of booking services is taken as initial information about existing hotels for further analysis. This information is essentially open, published on hundreds of sites. (Name, address, minimum information about the hotel).

Next, existing data on hotels and other accommodations already available in OSM is used. This data is compared with hotel data from booking services.

At the same time, using local search engines and Google, additional information is available both on hotels already available in OSM and on those that are missing.

The activity of the organization is analyzed to see if it is possible to make a reservation through any booking service.

Based on the collected data, tourist accommodations available in OSM are either supplemented or missing ones are added.

The main idea: to enable travelers to get hotel contacts and book it.

Tools and data sources

Aggregation of various sources: hotel level services such as Booking, Agoda, Expedia, local hotel level services, own websites, Google (only for search website of hotel) and local search engines.

The number of updated and added new objects on the map. Double-checking the relevance of information.

Training/instructions

Unfortunately, the instructions for editors are not in English.

Post-event clean-up

The preparation of data for publication on OSM goes through several stages of control. Selection of hotel or other accommodation data based on open source data and OSM. Updating data based on information from the hotel website. Updating data on materials from top accommodation booking services.
