Mapping success stories

Success stories are designed to highlight important contributions. Have you significantly improved the cartography of a country (added a new line, a power station, etc.)? Don't be shy, let us know below.

  • Andreas [2025-03]: The only current 500kv line in Bolivia was finalised and connected.
  • Andreas [2025-03]: Many 115kv lines were mapped and corrected, and a 220kv line was connected.
  • Andreas [2025-03]: A geojson hint layer official source was found, and helped mapping all major transmission lines until 2024.
  • Andreas [2025-03]: Two in construction hydropower plants with total capacity of 300MW were found or correctly tagged

Encountered problems and places to improve

  • Andreas [2025-03]: Satellite images were of good quality on bing imagery and sometimes Esri but slightly outdated. Many 2024 real-life developments could not be seen.
  • Andreas [2025-03]: Once satellite data is available, a 220kv line could be finished and connected in the East.
  • Andreas [2025-03]: A 115kv line in the South could be mapped once satellite data is better.

Use of mapping strategies

Mapping strategies refer to Power networks/Guidelines#Mapping strategies. They are used for a methodical improvement of the OSM database. Once you have fully applied a strategy in this country, you should add or update your name, the date, the strategy, and a comment below. This way, other users can see whether it is worthwhile to carry out further investigations.
