Document that both degrees and percentages must be supported

Field measurement devices sometimes report in percentages and sometimes in degrees, so the tag should explicitly support both units. Campbelltree (talk) 00:17, 16 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

Values with percentage and degree will be allowed as stated in the proposal.
NB: Currently almost all values are in percentage as shown in taginfo. OPENER (talk) 11:28, 4 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Is it not trivial to convert between degrees and percentages?
Seeing the wiki page for Key:incline specifies that "[degrees] is preferred only where widely in use", I think it should be the same for `incline:across=`. Kingking (talk) 03:10, 5 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
The general guidance is to preserve the units and significant figures from the original measurement source. If the surveyor only has a measurement tool that reports in whole degrees only, converting that to percentage either loses information or adds more digits than there really is information.
