Proposal talk:Tag:sub sea=reef
I had been looking for natural=reef. sub_sea=reef would be a good alternative. I have seen that the Great Barrier Reef has not been mapped. Davidbstanley 12:51, 4 July 2009 (UTC)

+1 for subsea=* (or sub_sea=*). -1 for natural=reef. --Eric S 13:12, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Make the tag more general
I suggest to name it something like sub_water instead of sub_sea, because I'm looking for a tag I can also use in a lake. Tric 04:33, 26 August 2009 (UTC)
Also make it more general, not restricted to reef. Could apply to coral_reef (good places in tropical area for beach), to wreck (but se also historic=wreck).--Eric S 13:06, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
Corrections
"Definition: An area underwater with totaly covered rocks." in the top box conflicts with the better definition given a few lines down.
I would remove the suggestion for layer=-1. For a reef the topological layer (in relation to a passing boat) may vary with the tide! Reefs can be a serious hazard, so one should not risk making them obscured because they get rendered behind an opaque feature tagged with a higher layer.
depth=.... (at low tide) is a better tag than layer=..... to give the vital information about a reef (for anyone who uses the information for navigation afloat).
