Proposed value

Intent: To mark a particular plant or animal location. My interest is in diving where coral is often a significant feature on a map. (Note: coral is an animal.) This may be useful for botanical gardens, natural parks, historic trees or territorial animals (especially if they are localized in a reliable place e.g. damsel fish).

A single or group of life forms may be marked. For example a single kelp (node) or a kelp forest (area).

This is a broader proposal than trees and functionally overlaps to a large extent.

"natural"="life"
"name"="Brain Coral Pinnacle"
"life:species"="platygyra daedalea"
"life:common_name"="brain coral"
"life:depth"="24m"
"life:height"="2m"
Physical. Node/Linear/Area.

Depth attribute only applies to underwater life.

Rendering

This is unlikely to be rendered by default in Osmarender road map or Mapnik. On application specific maps, the species name (e.g. platygyra daedalea) would reference a particular icon.

For gorgonian coral (annella mollis): GorgonianIcon.png
