This proposal corresponds to map feature Key:source.

key:source
Proposal status: Abandoned (inactive)

Tagging: key:source=key data source

Rationale

An entity may have different tags derived from different sources. For example I might get a trace of a wood from gps or satellite imagery. The use NPE out of copyright maps to get a name for the wood. In this case the shape of the wood comes from recent data but the name from old data.

The current source tag you can only provide a source for the overall entity not individual tags. Using key:source allows each key to have its own source.

Usage

<tag k="natural" v="wood"/>
<tag k="source" v="survey"/>
<tag k="name" v="Stoke Little Wood"/>
<tag k="name:source" v="NPE"/>

Discussion

I have often encountered using format source:key instead of key:source for this. In Czech Republic OSM data, source:something is quite common (source:ref and source:name being especially common), though I've never seem something:source. I suggest the format of this feature should be source:key instead of key:source --Bilbo 03:26, 8 February 2008 (UTC)

I second that source:key appears to be the "standard". See the source=* page sections: Examples/JOSM Annotation Presets/Notes (that show it's use). Tagwatch shows a ratio of 24223 to 118 for source:name=* vs name:source=* for Europe. --BlueMM 07:08, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
