State of the Map Asia 2023 - Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand, High angle aerial view.jpg

Bangkok, Thailand, is a dynamic and diverse city that serves as a crossroads for many cultures and economies in Asia, making it an ideal candidate for hosting the State of the Map Asia. Its robust infrastructure, including a range of conference facilities and an international airport, can easily accommodate participants from across the region. The city's unique blend of tradition and modernity, coupled with its renowned hospitality, would create an engaging and inspiring setting for attendees to discuss and collaborate on the future of open mapping in Asia.

Venue

The venue is Srinakharinwirot University, which will also be hosting FOSS4G Thailand 2023. The venue is available November 9-11th or 16-18th. If the event is held on the 16th-18th then there's the possibility of a combined event with FOSS4G Thailand, which would allow both communities to meet each other.

The venue is 100 meters from Phetchaburi MRT, in central Bangkok. Google Maps shows an abundance of accommodation options nearby of various levels of affordability starting from less than USD10 (using Google Maps because it shows prices and hotel availability, sorry!). Bangkok i

Catering

In past we provided lunch and two coffee breaks, one in the morning, the other in the afternoon.

  • What are the options for catering?

Some venues require you to use their dedicated catering service, whilst others allow catering to be provided by a different company. Beware, some venues even charge a fee if you use catering providers outside of their approved list! This is often known as a "corkage fee" and is something you should ask the venue about. At this stage we are only interested in restrictions on catering and rough cost estimates. Unless the venue requires you to use their catering provided, you do not need to have decided on the catering provider at this stage. You may wish to obtain a few quotes to ensure you are getting value for money.
