The building=police tag is used to identify a building built for use by the police. This may include the building(s) that form part of a police station (amenity=police) or are used as police office buildings (police=offices).

How to tag

Draw an area around the building and add the tag building=police.

Tagging police stations

A police station should be mapped using the amenity=police tag. However, the building(s) that forms the police station can also be tagged with building=police. The same is true of many police facilities, these should be tagged with the appropriate police=* tag but building=police can also be added to the specific buildings if appropriate.

There is also some small usage of the more specific building=police_station to tag police station buildings.

The building=police tag can also be used on buildings originally built for police use but not longer used by the police. For example, an old police station now turned into residential accommodation could be tagged as building=police + building:use=residential.

Possible synonyms

If you know places with this tag, verify if it could be tagged with another tag.
