Tag amenity=checkpoint is used for mapping dedicated places to perform various types of access controls, such as entry/exit of people/workers/visitors/vehicles to and from the facility's territory. Some examples might include:

  • Entry gates on the factories or large facilities
  • Pedestrian and vehicle checkpoints at industrial sites
  • Guard booths at the entrances to garden communities or garage cooperatives

More detailed clarification regarding checkpoint type can be provided with military=checkpoint / police=checkpoint / barrier=border_control.

This tag should **not** be used for locations of receptionists or attendants at dormitory entrances, nor for security posts inside large shopping centers (amenity=security_control would be more suitable in this case).

How to map

Depending on the size of the mapping, can be either mapped as node on the highway, way crossing multiple highways or showing length of the checkpoint, or as area if the checkpoint takes the whole area.

Specify name (if available) via name=* in full, for example, "Main Gate", "Checkpoint “Bridge”".
