A lych gate is a common entrance to churchyards and cemeteries in the British Isles, Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand and the USA. Usually it consists of ornamental gates covered by a small roof. Occasionally, it is incorporated in buildings as at Bray, Berkshire. Many mapped lych gates may be tagged simply with barrier=gate which satisfies basic routing needs, but often fails to capture other significant information. For instance, some are themselves listed monuments and they are often used as war memorials with plaques to the fallen on either side of the structure supporting the roof.
How to map
Simply add the tag barrier=lych_gate to a new node positioned where the lych gate is.
Larger ones may be mapped as buildings across the footway with building=lych_gate, with the barrier node remaining on the way, and it is the choice of the mapper as to whether to use this tag or barrier=gate
