The tag landuse=research has been used to tag an area used for research. The tags amenity=research_institute and office=research are the correct tags for areas used for research.
How to map
Draw the whole area and tag with landuse=research. If the area has a name then add it using name=*. More specific tags, such as the type of (research=*) should be added to the specific institutes, not the landuse.
