The locality=subtownland tag can be used to name places within the townland boundary of an "official" townland. This tag only applies to place names in Ireland.

How to map

Place a node at the appropriate location and add a place=locality and locality=subtownland together with name=*, name:ga=* (if known) and optionally also wikipedia=* or note=* etc.

When not to use this tag

To define any feature that already has a suitable tag schema in OpenStreetMap. For example:

The following is an example of a subtownland. The official townland is called "Gubb" which is marked in bold capital letters. The subtownland is "Mullaghboy" marked by small italic text.
