Scenic roads in Arizona are designated under the Arizona Parkways, Historic and Scenic Roads program, managed and overseen by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT). The program was originally established after being approved by the Arizona State Legislature in 1982. Segments of roads designated under the program are not required to be maintained by ADOT. The most well known scenic road in Arizona is Historic Route 66, which is designated over surviving sections of former US 66, as its name implies. Despite being part of the state scenic road program, historic U.S. Highways have their own tagging and mapping conventions within OpenStreetMap.
